Time for Sustainable Tourism and Project Management: the Summer School starts tomorrow.

festThe European Summer School in Leadership and Governance for Sustainable Tourism, the 2nd High Level Summer School on Project Management for Sustainable Tourism will start tomorrow, taking place from the  1st to the  3rd July, in Seinäjoki, Finland.
The Summer School in Leadership and Governance for Sustainable Tourism is an annual and European leading event that brings together key representatives of the tourism sector: donors, policy makers, industry representatives, project management practitioners, academics and entrepreneurs. The event was created by FEST (Foundation for European Sustainable Tourism), under the High Patronage of the European Parliament, to promote PM4SD™ as the methodology to apply in tourism projects and to discuss the professionalization of project management in sustainable tourism.
The programme of the Summer School includes several activities, from workshops about team management and social media, case studies to disseminate best practices, networking activities  to a brainstorming session in order to develop joint funding proposals and matching skill sets between professional project managers and organisations.
PM4SD - Summer School Facebook BannerOn  2nd July, the Conference “Leadership and Governance for Sustainable Tourism” will take the floor, leading to the Seinäjoki Declaration, which will involve representatives of intergovernmental organisations, governments and public sector agencies, development agencies and investment banks, project donors and funders, private sector, non-governmental organisations, civil society, professionals and academia in the shared purpose of sustainable development through tourism.
On the third day, the Summer School will end with the study visit to Jaakko IIkka, on a river cruise on a 52-seat ferry.
Speakers from the most important institutions, universities and companies in tourism sector will take part to the Summer School. International institutions as European Commission, UN World Tourism Organization, Planeterra, USAid, Finnish Tourist Board, the INTASAVE Partnership and CARIBSAVE, Universitat Rovira i Virgili di Tarragona, European Travel Commission will participate in the Summer School.
Management and governance are key factors  for the success of sustainable tourism; their importance will grow in the next years with ETIS, the Indicators System, from the European Commission, for Sustainable Management at Destination Level. Starting from this assumption and from the success of the last edition in Naples, the Summer School returns with the aim to confirm itself as a knowledge hub to share practices on how to plan and manage tourism funding with sustainability and to improve project management and effectiveness in the tourism sector.
The Summer School is organized by FEST and hosted by Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences in partnership with Helsinki University, Ruralia Institute, University Consortium of Seinäjoki, and the Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia.
